"Poor people are not allowed to go to college."

The phenomenon of this term surfaced several years ago during the high cost of studying at a university. However, this does not always happen because the Ministry of Education and Culture launched the Bidikmisi scholarship program (Education Scholarships for Poor and Outstanding Students) in 2010, initiated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Minister of Education and Culture Mohammad Nuh. This scholarship provides free tuition access for eligible students. Now this scholarship has changed its name to KIPK (Indonesian Smart College Card).

One of the students who got it was Diah Ayuning Tyas, who got into the Management study program, Faculty of Economics of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) through the SNMPTN (National Entrance Selection of State Universities) in 2021. Ayu's struggle, as she is known, to enter UNY was also not easy because previously, she wanted to go to the official colleges.

Her parents, Warto and Susmiyati, who work as vegetable farmers, support their eldest daughter's determination to go to college even though she is financially limited. "I'm trying my best to find Ayu's fees for college, so she's not like us who are just farmers," said Warto. Susmiyati said that since she was in elementary school, Ayu had always been in the top 5 students who excelled at her school, so she supported Ayu's desire to go to college. Luckily, Ayu got information about the KIPK from her school counselor, Sigit Setyonugroho, so that Ayu could become a student at UNY without any cost.

The management study program is one of the favorite study programs for UNY students. Based on the Admissions Service Office data in 2020, the Management study program's interest was 15,475 people, but only 291 people were accepted, with a tightness of 1:54 people. This program aligns with UNY's sustainable development goals regarding poverty alleviation and access to good quality education. (Dedy, ts-Shafia, Alina)
