UNY Holds Graduation Ceremony for 5,320 Students — the Largest Number in Its History

UNY once again made history by holding its largest-ever graduation ceremony. Over three consecutive days (Tuesday to Thursday, 26-28 August 2025), a total of 5,320 students from diploma, bachelor, master and doctoral programmes were officially graduated at the GOR UNY sports hall. This number marks the highest ever in UNY’s graduation history. Of the total graduates, 135 were from the Doctoral Programme, 1,171 from Master’s, 3,386 from Bachelor’s, and 628 from Applied Bachelor’s.
By faculty, the numbers were: Faculty of Education 1,128; Faculty of Languages, Arts & Culture 806; Faculty of Mathematics & Natural Sciences 727; Faculty of Social & Political Sciences 543; Faculty of Engineering 566; Faculty of Sports & Health Sciences 318; Faculty of Economics & Business 402; Vocational Faculty 628; Faculty of Psychology 91; and Graduate School 111.
Academic achievements also stood out: 38 graduates earned the summa cum laude distinction (22 at Master’s level, 16 at Doctoral). Additionally, 3,250 graduates achieved the cum laude distinction across various programmes.
The Rector, Prof. Sumaryanto, emphasised that education is an investment in civilisation. He hoped UNY graduates are ready to contribute in their fields and face global competition equipped with 21st-century skills. “UNY also opens opportunities for graduates to continue to S2 and S3, because UNY accepts new students for those levels twice a year,” he stated.
