UNY Garuda Team Proves Innovation Consistency Again, Wins 1st Place in KMHE 2025

The UNY Garuda Team once again recorded a proud achievement on the national stage. In the Kontes Mobil Hemat Energi KMHE 2025 held at Universitas Jember from 23–26 October 2025, the Garuda UNY Team won 1st place in the “Urban Concept Internal Combustion Engine (MPD) – Gasoline” category, and 2nd place in the “Urban Concept MPD – Ethanol” category.
This achievement further confirms UNY’s consistent innovation in energy-efficient vehicle technology that is environmentally friendly and sustainable.
In the Gasoline MPD category, the Garuda UNY Team achieved an extraordinary result of 560 km per litre, which also became a new national record. Meanwhile, in the Ethanol MPD category, the team delivered a competitive performance with 516 km per litre. These results demonstrate the ability of UNY students to combine scientific research, creative design, and technological innovation to create highly efficient and competitive vehicles.
The Manager of Team Garuda UNY expressed gratitude and pride for the achievement. “We are thankful and proud because we can bring UNY’s name back to the national podium. This achievement is the fruit of the team members’ dedication, the support of supervising lecturers, as well as the UNY Rectorate and Faculty of Engineering. Without solid collaboration, this result would not have happened,” he said.
Also sharing appreciation, Dr. Arwan Nur Ramadhan, S.Pd., M.Pd., Special Staff to the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni of UNY, who joined the monitoring and evaluation at the competition site, stated his pride in the extraordinary achievement of UNY students. “The achievement of Team Garuda UNY at KMHE 2025 proves that UNY students are capable of presenting technology solutions relevant to the challenges of the times. We are proud because this achievement not only elevates the university’s name, but also shows that Indonesian youth innovation can be part of the sustainable energy solution. UNY will continue to push a productive and innovative student ecosystem,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sutiman, M.Pd., supervisor of Team Garuda UNY, emphasized that this success is the result of a long process and the hard work of all team members. “This achievement is not instant. The students have worked with high dedication since the research phase, design, through to vehicle performance testing. Going forward, we will deepen research on fuel‐system efficiency and vehicle materials to become even lighter and more environmentally friendly,” he explained.
According to him, the success is a combination of scientific discipline, competitive spirit, and continuous mentoring from the supervising lecturers. In this opportunity, Team Garuda UNY also thanked the Rectorate of UNY, the Student Affairs Division, and the Faculty of Engineering UNY, especially Prof. Dr. Mutiara Nugraheni S.TP., M.Si., and Dr. Ir.
