UNY Efforts to Preserve Biodiversity on Campus

We can make various efforts to preserve nature while facing the threat of global climate change. One of these efforts is to carry out routine, periodic and sustainable maintenance of parks and various plants in the Green Open Space in the campus area. This routine maintenance is carried out to maintain the balance of the ecosystem and maintain the condition of Green Open Space to maintain biodiversity and provide a comfortable, cool and beautiful view on campus. Garden maintenance is also carried out on vertical gardens on campus.

"Through routine maintenance, it is expected that the diversity of vegetation will increase the diversity of animals, especially avifauna, which is an indicator of the biodiversity of an ecosystem. A healthy and stable ecosystem characterized by high biodiversity will become a life-supporting system for human life, such as, life on campus. Green spaces will also improve the microclimate and play a role in overcoming global warming and global climate change," said Dr. Tien Aminatun, S.Si., M.Si., Head of UNY Disaster Mitigation and Climate Change Center.

As part of public accountability, efforts to manage parks and plants at the Karangmalang Campus, Wates Campus, and Semanu Campus have been reported in the Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Monitoring Plan implementation reporting documents published every semester and submitted to the Sleman, Kulon Progo, and Gunung Kidul District Environmental Offices.
