Banana trees are very familiar with the life of the Indonesian people. Moreover, banana hump contains anthraquinone, which can substitute for minoxidil in synthetic hair tonics. Therefore, it inspires the Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) students to make hair tonic from banana hump waste as a solution for natural hair care.

Fahayu Priristia (Accounting Education Department) and An Nisa Nur Halimah (Marketing Management Department), Shilvi Woro Satiti and Annisa Fitria (Chemistry Department), and Larasati Nindya Ismana (Biology Education Department) initiated the making of this hair tonic. Nowadays, people are very concerned about appearance, especially about the health and beauty of hair. Dandruff and hair loss are big problems for everyone. But, on the other hand, hair tonics on the market contain minoxidil and finasteride, which can cause pain, myopathy, and premature ejaculation when used long-term. Therefore, they created a hair tonic from natural ingredients to be safe for health.

The materials needed to make "Nevair Tonic" are bottles, banana hump, alcohol, sodium metabisulfite, propylene glycol, propylparaben, distilled water, labels, fragrances, menthol, and cardboard packaging.

The production process is making banana hump water extract and making hair tonic. In banana hump water extract, the banana hump is cleaned, cut, crushed, filtered with filter paper, and heated at a temperature of 900 for 10 minutes. After all the process, filtered and obtained banana hump water extract. To make the hair tonic, dissolve the sodium metabisulfite and banana hump in distilled water (solution A). Then, dissolve propylparaben and menthol in ethanol (solution B). Mix solutions A and B, add propylene glycol little by little, then homogenize and pack in bottles. Hair tonic ready to be marketed.

"Nevair Tonic" is made from extracted banana weevil (Musa paradisiaca) into herbal hair tonic products that are safe for the scalp. "Nevair Tonic" has the advantage of an affordable price and is made from natural ingredients. In addition, "Nevair Tonic" has passed various tests to be safe and effective as a solution for hair loss and dandruff. It puts forward the principles of TQM (Total Quality Management). In terms of business opportunities, "Nevair Tonic" can also be further developed and produced in the long term. It is because of resources available that it is easy to obtain and easy to cultivate.
