UNY Researchers Explore The Women Leaders Self-Image In Indonesian Folklore

As Indonesian intellectual property, folklore needs to be read and understood again wisely. In this way, it is entertaining (dulce). Moreover, it provides a space for cognitive understanding (utile) about a more just and natural history. Thus, Wiyatmi, as one of the authors of the book Kings and Heroes of Women, and Angels in Indonesian Folklore, at a national seminar and book launch organized by the Association of Indonesian Scholars and Literature, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (HISKI UNY) Commissariat in collaboration with the Faculty of Language and Arts on Tuesday (27 /10).
It turns out that we have stories of women who have a great leadership spirit. They have even become queens who lead and have an extensive influence. Moreover, Esti Swatika Sari and Else Liliani's research show that Indonesian folklore can build a strong cultural identity and self-image for women leaders. "Women's leadership turns out to have cultural roots in our folklore," she said.
This national seminar and book launch presented some experts, including Prof. Dr. Suminto A Sayuti, from UNY, who introduced the discussion. In addition, two other speakers, namely Prof. Djoko Saryono, M.Pd., from the Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) and Prof. Dr. Novi Anoegrajekti, M. Hum., from Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ). More than 200 participants attended the seminar—Dr. Pujiharto, chairman of PBSI UGM, and participants from the Netherlands, Malaysia, and China.
Djoko Saryono, who spoke afterward, reiterated that this research's results aimed to produce new theories. "In the future, it is necessary to conduct development research with a richer perspective," said the UM's professor. According to him, many perspectives need to explore in further research. For example, looking at folklore from the perspective of maritime feminism, how women from the archipelago manage public and domestic spaces with local wisdom. (Else L,ts-Shafia, Alina)
