UNY received a total of 1,552 new students through the SNMPTN results announced on Wednesday (8/4). UNY's new students consist of 531 Science and Technology study programs (Saintek) and 1,021 people in the social humanities. Around 472 of these prospective students get KIP College. According to a release, signed by LTMPT Chairman Mohammad Nasih, in SNMPTN in 2020, UNY was ranked 9th out of the top 10 PTN applicants nationally, with the number of applicants 20,509 students. Thus, UNY received about 7.5% of SNMPTN applicants who decided to choose UNY as an option to study. In national standard the number of declared participants who passed the selection at 86 State Universities (PTN) in Indonesia amounted to around 96,496 students. This number is the result of choice from the number of applicants in total of 489,601 students. The number who graduated at the PTN included 25,398 students from Indonesia Smart College Card (KIP-Kuliah) participants, with the total of KIP-Kuliah applicants being 95,346.

UNY Rector, Sutrisna Wibawa, affirmed that UNY new  prospective students must fill the socio-economic data to get their Single Tuition Fees (UKT) on  http://ukt.uny.ac.id page on April 8 to 15, 2020. "If it does not fill up to that date, they will be subjected to the highest UKT," he added. The verification results and the amount of UKT were announced on April 20, 2020, on UNY's official website.

For the prospective non-KIP-Kuliah UNY students (Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah) the UKT payment is from April 20 to May 6, 2020, at Bank BTN, Bank BNI, Bank Mandiri Branch Office / Cash Office all over Indonesia, or Bank BPD DIY by showing the proof number of SNMPTN registration in 2020. In addition, those who use Bank BTN, Bank BNI, and Bank Mandiri can access their payment through ATM, Internet Banking, or Mobile Banking. Students who have paid tuition fees cannot withdraw such payments for any reason unless they are declared not to have passed the SLTA or equivalent. The Prospective students can register online through the httips://registrasi.uny.ac.id page from April 20 to May 31, 2020. Prospective non-KIP college students use the SNMPTN registration number and PIN obtained after making UKT payments, while prospective students who receive KIP-Kuliah registration use the KIP-Kuliah number.  Verification determines the definitive status as a recipient of KIP-College.
