UNY Professor explains the key of the efficiency of Solar Power Electricity

Solar power energy is one of the alternative sources of renewable energy that is very promising in fulfilling the needs of energy. Even though, up to this day, utilization of solar power is not optimally used.

Prof. Dr. Ariswan, Yogyakarta State University professor, explains that, in Indonesia, most people use solar power up to the natural benefits. The majority saw sunshine bring harmful impact because they must use protectors to hide from the sunburn. It is needed to explain to the people about the importance of solar power to electricity.

 1. Improving electrical energy through semiconductor engineering based on Chalcogenide.

Ariswan stated that the improvement of electrical products should be made through manipulating the semiconductor material based on chalcogenide as the main solar cell ingredients. The engineering means structural engineering and optical properties to be able to produce the maximum theoretical efficiency convection.

 

“ In fact, through the preparation system engineering with modern equipment can produce a material system with convention ability solar power becoming electrical with convention efficiency more than the maximum theoretical convention efficiency,” he explained through his inaugural speech on Saturday (28/12)

 
2. The semiconductor material could implemented faster
 
According to him, in this modern technology era, the semiconductor became a faster material to be implemented. The material became special because, at a temperature above 0 K, it could change into a conductor with a relatively small forbidden Eg bandwidth that is smaller than 3 eV.

Based on the explanation above, the material is a base ingredient for an active component inside the electronic device such as a diode, transistor, and integrated circuit and the converting technology device such as Solar Power.

“ The semiconductor technology that based on silicon and germanium material in the beginning and now the semiconductor materials are diverse with physical properties that are increasingly in line with the needs of modern human life,” he said.

 3. Semiconductor material engineering to improve solar cell conversion efficiency

Ariswan explained that semiconductor material engineering is getting done as an effort to increase the efficiency of solar cell conversion, which is the ability of solar cells to convert solar energy into electrical energy. According to him, this increase is largely determined by two things.

First, the quality of the two P-N semiconductors type. Second, the ability of two or more materials that make up the connection can absorb solar energy that is exposed to the connection.

He said that renewable energy technology development is sustainable for the long term in large quantities through the development of materials engineering must continue to do.

Ariswan said that the semiconductor material engineering model must continue to be studied so that the utilization of solar energy, which is very abundant in Indonesia, can be optimized towards national energy independence. (ts-vannya)
