32 Dalang Cilik Shows His Skills in Playing Wayang Kulit

In the context of the 57th Anniversary of UNY, Faculty of Language and Arts, Yogyakarta State University (FBS UNY), a total of 32 puppeteers show their expertise in playing wayang kullit, with plays from some stories originating from the Mahabharata story, Ramayana, and Maespati Cycle which was held on Tuesday (9/6) at Ki Nartosabdo Building, Karawitan Laboratory of FBS UNY. Public Relations of the Little Dalang X Festival, Retno said, the participants of this Little Dalang Festival came from DIJ and some regions such as Central Java and East Java. "This is a routine event for UNY to commemorate Dies Natalis and has entered its 10th year. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event which is usually held offline, this time is packaged online," he said.

Retno added that this festival was not held the previous year because it was hampered by the pandemic's beginning, and only this year did it start again. "This wayang festival proves that UNY is committed to maintaining a noble cultural standard that can develop the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective aspects of children," he explained. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Committee for the Little Dalang Festival, Sukisno, explained that this event could be a place for children who have the talent to perform, especially wayang kulit. He also hopes that "Many children who have talent and excellent seeds become puppeteers. Either from the studios or from other places that regularly practice. The little puppeteers can be people who snoop around culture as well as become professional puppeteers. The world of wayang contains educational values ​​that can be directly learned and understood by children. Hopefully, wayang can be sustainable.
